Whenever pain loses its protective function it becomes a disease in itself. Neuropathic pain, which results from affection of the nervous system, may frequently appear after herpes zoster infection or in association of nerve compression, trigeminal neuralgia or polyneuropathy.

Exact diagnosis of the causes of pain is essential for adequate treatment.

In the private neurological practice of Prof. Dr. A. Hufnagel the most advanced diagnostic equipment is available for the diagnosis of pain, such as ultrasound evaluation of brain perfusion, EEG, evoked potentials, electrophysiological measurements, EMG, psychometric testing and extended lab evaluation of blood samples.
